Look for inexpensive hotels with a short lobby. The door, the desk and the lifts should sit close together, so you can walk in and go upstairs without a long hall, a driveway or a mall corridor in between.
These are budget and simple three-star stays, not beach resorts. Rates move with the season, so check the night you want before you book, and put the reservation in the name of the person who will be in the room.

A modest three-star on a side street, with a small reception and the lifts just past the desk. It is not inside a mall. A taxi can stop at the door, and the pavement is quieter than the main roads in Deira.

The entrance is at street level near Mall of the Emirates, and the lobby is short. Al Barsha is residential, so the pavement is calmer in the evening. The desk and the lifts share one small room, and the price is still a budget rate.

The usual compact ibis layout, with the door, the desk and the lifts in one space. The rate is a chain budget rate. The mall is next door, but the hotel door itself is not a long indoor walk.

A plain chain lobby, and the taxi drops you at the door. There is a little more floor space than at an ibis. Use it when you want a known brand and a straight walk to the lifts.
What to skip
Skip beach resorts, towers on the Palm and in the Marina, and hotel apartments where a guard sits at the end of a corridor. A grand atrium or a long driveway means a long walk from the street. If the photos show reception far from the street door, pick another hotel.
